Vanderbilt Museum Events & Activities

This spring and summer, the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum has programs and events for everyone! We're lucky to have the Vanderbilt so close to home.  Here is an early look at a bountiful season of things to do on Long Island.

MAY

Carriage House Players, Fifty Words, Carriage House Theater

May 17, 18, 31 and June 1 at 8:00 pm; May 19, June 2 at 3:00 pm.

A couple explores their marriage, which is on the verge of either a breakup or deepening love and understanding. Tickets: $20 adults, $15 seniors and children.

Sunday, May 19: Cadillac Club of Long Island car show, 11:00-4:00 pm, Great Lawn

Owners display beautiful classic automobiles. Visitors pay only Museum general admission; there is no extra charge for the car show. Admission at door: Adults, $8; students/seniors (age 62 plus) with ID, $7; children 12 and under, $5.

Saturday, May 25: Living History Tours, 12:30-3:30 pm, Vanderbilt Mansion

This summer it’s 1939 in the Mansion. Guides in costume tell visitors stories of the Vanderbilt family and famous guests. Tours given Saturdays and Sundays through September 1. Tickets at door only: $10 plus general admission.

Friday, May 31: Sunset Yoga Flow, 6:30-8:15 pm, Great Lawn

Pop Up Prana Yoga offers yoga at sunset, outdoors overlooking Northport Bay. Check-in 6:30, class 7:00-8:15. Tickets: $30, at www.popuppranayoga.com.


JUNE

Bachelorette, Carriage House Theater

June 14, 15, 21, 22 at 8:00 p.m. and June 16, 23 at 3:00 pm.

A wicked black comedy about female friendship and growing up in an age of excess. Tickets: $20 adults, $15 seniors and children.

Saturday, June 8: Meditation under the Stars, 5:15-7:00pm, Planetarium

Guided meditation enhanced by night-sky imagery on Planetarium dome, healing music to reduce stress. Tickets: $25.

Friday, June 21: Summer Solstice Yoga Flow, 6:30-8:15 pm, Rose Garden

Pop Up Prana Yoga offers yoga outdoors at sunset. Check-in 6:30, class 7:00-8:15. Tickets; $30 at www.popuppranayoga.com.

Saturday, June 22: A Morning for Families, 8:30 am-12:00 pm, Planetarium, Rose Garden

This free event, exclusively for children, young adults and adults with special needs and their families, features a sensory garden, safe viewing of the Sun with a solar telescope, tour of natural history exhibits, and examination of Museum specimens. A Planetarium show will run continuously for families throughout the morning. Pre-registration required. (Visit www.vanderbiltmuseum.org, click on Events, follow link to registration button.)



JULY

July and August, Summer Shakespeare Festival, Mansion Courtyard stage

The Carriage House Players present the Vanderbilt’s 31st annual Shakespeare Festival, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00-10:00 pm, and Sunday, 7:00-9:00 pm. June 28-July 28: The Tempest. August 2-September 1: Julius Caesar. Tickets: $20 adults, $15 seniors and children.

Children’s Creative Workshops, Carriage House/Learning Center, 10:00 am-12:00 pm

Thursday, July 18: The Liverpool Shuffle, 7:00 pm, Mansion Courtyard

This popular Long Island band will perform and sings Beatles classics with infectious enthusiasm, high energy and a sense of humor. Tickets: adult, $25 online, $35 at door; children 5-15, $10 online or at door.

Saturday, July 13: Vanderbilt summer fundraising event

Benefits education programs and Carriage House/Learning Center. Details on website.

For the 13th summer, these renowned musicians will bring music, dancing, and romance to the Vanderbilt. Reservations online only. Tickets: $45.

Saturday, August 10: Us and Floyd (Pink Floyd tribute band), 7:00 and 9:00 pm, Planetarium

The tribute band Us and Floyd performs the classics of Pink Floyd, including Dark Side of The Moon and The Wall. (www.pinkfloydtributebandny.com) Tickets: $25 online, $30 at door.


SEPTEMBER

Saturday, September 7: Morning Yoga Flow, 9:30-11:15 am, Great Lawn

Pop Up Prana Yoga will offer a morning of outdoor yoga. Check-in 9:30, class 10:00-11:15. Tickets: $30 at www.popuppranayoga.com

Sunday, September 8: Jaguar-MG Concours d’Elegance, 11:00-4:00 pm, Great Lawn

Saturday, September 14: First Responders Day, 12:00-4:00 pm. Free admission for first responders and their families, including police, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians.

Saturday, September 21: History of Rock and Roll, 5:30-7:00 pm, Planetarium

Multi-media show with costumes, video and the rock music of the ‘50s-‘80s – from Elvis and The Beatles to disco and Billy Joel. Tickets: $20 online, $25 at door, $15 for children 15 and under.

Sunday, October 6: Corvette Society show, 11:00-4:00 pm, Great Lawn

The tribute band BonJourney performs the hits of Bon Jovi and Journey. Tickets: adults $20 online, $25 at door. Children 15 and under, $15 online or at door.

Saturday-Monday, November 9, 10, 11: Veterans Day Salute, 12:00-4:00, pm.

Free admission for veterans, active-duty service members and their families.

Saturday, November 16: Meditation Under the Stars, 5:15-7:00pm. Planetarium

Saturday, November 30: Annual Tree Lighting, 4:30 pm, Mansion Courtyard

This free, popular event includes carol singing, a children’s ornament-making workshop, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus (great photo opportunity), hot chocolate and cookies.


DECEMBER

Saturday, December 7: Holiday Dinner in Vanderbilt Mansion, seatings at 6:00 and 8:00 pm. A delightful evening in the Mansion, decorated for the holidays. Proceeds from this major fundraiser benefit education programs and the Carriage House/Learning Center. Tickets: $135 members, $150 non-members.

Local designers and garden clubs conjure holiday magic in the Mansion. Visitors can take guided tours to enjoy the results. Tickets: Members free, non-members, $12; children under 12, $6; seniors/students, $10.
